Getting Started
How do I log my first brew? +
Tap "New Brew" from the tab bar, select your brewing method, and fill in the fields that matter to you. Swipe the rulers or tap to type values. Hit "Next" to add notes and save.
What brewing methods are available? +
Prof Bean includes presets for Espresso, Pour Over, French Press, AeroPress, Moka Pot, and Cold Brew. Each comes with tailored fields for that method.
Can I customize which fields are shown? +
Yes. Tap the gear icon in New Brew to toggle field visibility, add custom fields, or rearrange what's shown in Quick Entry.
AI Advice & Professor Bean
How does Professor Bean generate advice? +
After you save a brew, Professor Bean reads your parameters (dose, yield, time, temperature, etc.) and gives you one actionable tip. When online, advice comes via OpenAI. On supported devices, Apple Intelligence can generate advice entirely on-device.
Is Professor Bean available in all countries? +
In regions where OpenAI services are not available (including mainland China), all AI-generated content is disabled. The app detects your region automatically. Brew logging, history, timer, and all other features continue to work normally — only Professor Bean's advice is unavailable in these regions.
Why does Professor Bean show different emotions? +
Professor Bean's expression reflects the sentiment of the advice. A proud face means your brew is dialled in; a thoughtful face means there's room to improve. It's a quick visual cue before you read the full tip.
Technical
Does Prof Bean work with the Apple Watch? +
Yes. The Watch app lets you time your shots with preinfusion tracking and haptic alerts. It syncs automatically with the iPhone app.
What Bluetooth scales are supported? +
Prof Bean currently supports Bookoo and Skale Bluetooth scales, with DiFluid support coming soon. Check the Connected Gear page for details and setup tutorials.
Where is my data stored? +
All your brew data is stored entirely on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Nothing is uploaded to external servers. Cloud sync is planned for a future update.
How do I delete my data? +
You can delete individual brews from the history view or remove the app entirely to clear all data. Since everything is stored locally, deleting the app removes all brew records.
